Mesa police are searching for a man who sexually assaulted a 12-year-old girl in her home.
Police said that on the afternoon of July 9, someone knocked on the door of the home near Main Street and Extension Road. She opened the door, and a man forced his way in, pushed her onto a couch and sexually assaulted her, police said. The man then left.
The incident was not reported until Wednesday because the girl feared the man would return, police said. Her family called police as soon as she told them.
Police are asking the public for help in finding the attacker.
He is described as Hispanic, in his 30s, and about 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall with a thin build, a thin mustache, brown eyes, and short, "messy style" black hair. He was wearing a tan-colored T-shirt, black jeans and work boots.
He is also believed to be wearing a small gold hoop earring in one ear, police said.
Police said the man also has two small moles below the side of his right eye.
Police don't believe the assault is related to several assaults in the Phoenix area.
Police ask that anyone with information about the case call (480) 644-2211 or Silent Witness at (480) 948-6377.
