Thanks to supplier, Rauch fits right in with D-Backs

Jon Rauch may feel a little more comfortable today, and not necessarily because he had a taste of the Chase Field mound on Tuesday, his first day with the Diamondbacks.

His properly sized uniform pants – 42-by-38 – arrived from supplier Majestic on Wednesday.

Hey, it is not as if teams carry extra game wear for the tallest pitcher in major league history.

Rauch is 6-foot-11, 290 pounds.

“When we heard it was a possibility” that the D-Backs might acquire Rauch, “we checked with Majestic to get his sizes,” D-Backs senior director of travel Roger Riley said.

“We had them start making the pants and shirts.”

Rauch’s shirts have longer tails and sleeves than most, and his pants are fuller than 6-10 Randy Johnson’s.

So Rauch pitched a scoreless inning in Tony Clark’s pants and a regular stock jersey Tuesday, striking out two.

The D-Backs have a storeroom full of extra jerseys and pants in a wide range of sizes, which can accommodate just about any new acquisition.

“For a normal-sized guy, there is a pretty good chance we can fit him,” Riley said.

“We got by for a day.”

Rauch, Johnson and Clark, 6-foot-7, give the D-Backs the biggest front line in baseball.

“I’m the small forward,” Clark said.
