Motorcyclist killed in Gilbert collision

Devon Hersom, Tribune

A motorcyclist was killed Tuesday after police say a pickup truck driver did not see the biker and pulled in front of the vehicle in Gilbert.

The motorcyclist was identified Wednesday as Mathew Sheehan, 21, of Gilbert.

Gilbert police Sgt. Mark Marino said Sheehan was traveling south on Gilbert Road around 1:25 p.m. when the truck pulled in front of him at Ivanhoe Street, between Ray Road and Chandler Boulevard.

The driver of the pickup, 49-year-old Edith Holiday of Gilbert, was attempting to turn left but did not see the motorcyclist, Marino said.

The vehicles collided, and the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sheehan was wearing a helmet, Marino said, adding that speed, drugs nor alcohol were factors in the incident.
