Man’s arm severed in construction accident

John Leptich, Tribune

A construction worker had one of his arms severed between the shoulder and elbow during an accident Tuesday morning in Queen Creek.

According to a Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman, just before 8 a.m., in the area of Rittenhouse and Ocotillo roads, a 44-year-old man thought there might be something stuck in a concrete conveyer belt he was working with. He reached inside to clean it out and a roller pulled his arm in, crushing it. The construction site was in the beginning stages of building a Jack in the Box restaurant.

The victim was taken to a hospital in serious condition. His identity has not been released.
