Paul Zimmermann, a Scottsdale man whose body police found wrapped in a tarp on a vacant lot last week, died from strangulation and gunshot wounds, the Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office said Sunday.
Police confirm body is missing Scottsdale man's
Zimmermann, 50, had been missing for a week before Scottsdale police found his body in the 9500 block of East Sweetwater Avenue. The body appeared to have been dragged about a half-mile through the neighborhood, according to police.
Tanya Leggett, a medical examiner’s office investigator, said the causes of Zimmermann’s death are listed as gunshot wounds to the torso and ligature strangulation. It’s Scottsdale’s third homicide this year, police say.
Zimmermann was CEO of Upstream Healthcare, a company he formed in 1999.
Police discovered Zimmermann’s vehicle near 93rd Street and Sweetwater Avenue on July 14 and discovered items in it that linked him to Tom Sullivan, 55, who lived a few blocks away.
Sullivan shot himself to death on his back patio soon after being questioned by police. Clues at Sullivan’s home led authorities to Zimmermann’s body, police have said.
