PHOENIX - A Phoenix man who was beaten with a pipe by his grandson has died, leaving the younger man to face a possible first-degree murder charge.
Investigators say 33-year-old Jose Salazar beat both his grandparents with a pipe early Friday morning, then left them bleeding on the sidewalk before he barricaded himself in their Phoenix home.
Authorities surrounded the home, and Salazar eventually gave up without incident.
His grandfather died of his injuries Saturday. His grandmother had been hospitalized with serious injuries but her latest condition was unknown.
The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office says it will recommend the county attorney charge him with first degree murder.
