ASU briefs: Carpenter named to O'Brien Award watch list

Arizona State senior quarterback Rudy Carpenter has been named to the watch list for the 2008 Davey O’Brien Award, which is presented annually to the best quarterback in the nation. Carpenter is coming off a junior season in which he threw for 3,202 yards and 25 touchdowns while leading the Sun Devils to a 10-3 record .
Semifinalists for the O’Brien Award will be announced on Oct. 27, with finalists selected on Nov. 24.
TRACK AND FIELD
• Three members of the Arizona State track and field program will be competing at the North American, Central American and Caribbean (NACAC) Under-23 Championships this weekend in Toluca, Mexico. Sarah Stevens will compete in the shot put and hammer, Matt Turner in the long jump and Ryan Whiting in the shot put and discus in the meet that runs today through Sunday.
