The Coyotes released their 2008-2009 schedule Thursday.
Under the NHL’s new schedule format, the Coyotes will play six games (three home and three away) against each of their four Pacific Division rivals (Anaheim, Dallas, Los Angeles and San Jose). In past seasons, the Coyotes had played eight games against division rivals.
They will face the 10 remaining Western Conference teams four times each (two home and two away).
In addition, they will face each of the 15 Eastern Conference clubs at least once, with the three remaining “at large” games to be played against teams from the East.
The three Eastern Conference clubs the Coyotes will play twice in home-and-home series are the Buffalo Sabres, Carolina Hurricanes and New York Islanders.

LOOSE PUCK
Coyotes center Martin Hanzal underwent successful back surgery to repair a herniated disk by specialist Dr. Robert Watkins in Los Angeles.
Hanzal sustained the injury while playing for the Czech Republic at the 2008 IIHF world championship in May. Hanzal is scheduled to begin his rehabilitation process in Phoenix shortly and should be ready to resume playing by the start of training camp in mid-September.
