Accused Serial Shooter Dale Hausner and his brother Jeff Hausner have been indicted on charges of attempted first-degree murder for a 2006 stabbing in a west Phoenix parking lot.
Timothy Davenport, 35, was stabbed repeatedly in the back and left side of his body about 6 a.m. on May 17, 2006, in a parking lot near 75th Avenue and Camelback Road.
Hausner brother linked to another serial killing
Although police said earlier this week that the other accused Serial Shooter, Sam Dieteman, was with the Hausner brothers during the attack on Davenport, Dieteman isn't named in the indictment. Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas refused to comment Tuesday on whether Dieteman has been given immunity, but he did acknowledge that Dieteman has been "cooperating" with authorities.
Phoenix police Cmdr. Joe Klima said a team of detectives plan to spend about the next seven months sifting through years of police reports to determine if there are additional victims in the Serial Shooters case.
"I think their (modus operandi) makes it hard to tell if other victims are out there," Klima said.
Jeff Hausner is serving a 7 1/2-year prison term for the stabbing of a homeless man on April 14, 2006. Officials said they are linking the knife attacks to the Serial Shooters' crime spree. He has also been linked to a November 2005 shooting that police say involved his brother and Dieteman. In that case, authorities say, transient Nathaniel Schoffner was killed while trying to stop the men from killing a dog in Phoenix.
Dale Hausner and Dieteman were arrested in August 2006 at their apartment in Mesa.
They are charged in a 14-month violent crime spree that left eight people dead and 14 wounded, and that also included killing animals.
Police believe the pair drove around Phoenix, Mesa, Scottsdale and the West Valley and randomly blasted at people and animals with a shotgun.
Hausner has pleaded not guilty to eight murder charges. Dieteman has pleaded guilty to two murders and has agreed to testify against Hausner.
