Kristen Jordison, regional vice president of the charter school near Elliot Road and 50th Place, said the building has had only minor roof issues in the past. The building, built during the 1980s according to Jordison, has housed the school for four years.
“Crews are still getting water out,” Jordison said early Monday afternoon. She said two classrooms are damaged and there is additional water damage throughout the school and that it will likely take a week before the water is completely removed.
The National Weather service reported 1.54 inches of rain in Ahwatukee Foothills for a 24-hour peiod ending Monday morning.
Jordison said the YMCA is in the process of relocating its summer school classes to another location in Ahwatukee Foothills. She hopes her school will open for the new school year Aug. 4 as scheduled.
“That’s what we’ll shoot for,” Jordison said. “We’ve never had anything like this happen.”
