Some of the best talks happen over glasses of wine and giggles with girlfriends.

Perhaps that’s why one of the juiciest of all girl-talk topics — sex — is up for discussion with a “sexpert” at a wine party in Chandler.

Carly Milne, a writer whose work has appeared in Glamour, Variety, Stuff, Maxim, Penthouse and Yoga Journal — among other magazines — will read from her book, “Sexography: One Woman’s Journey from Ignorance to Bliss,” Thursday at Kokopelli Winery and Bistro.

The 449-page book is a memoir of Milne’s personal sexual journey, rife with the naughty and humorous tales one would expect from a woman discovering, blundering and reveling her way through sex. But it’s more than a guilty pleasure: Milne uses the book to discuss painful experiences with abuse, assault and rape, and the ultimate rebirth of her sexual self. It’s a frank account of her hard-earned path to self acceptance, and of how sex influences life in and out of the bedroom.

Tickets to the event are $40 and must be purchased in advance through Changing Hands Bookstore. Each ticket includes a copy of the book and two drink tickets.

Milne began writing as a teenager for her hometown newspaper in Calgary, Alberta. Later, she worked as an editor and publicist for the adult entertainment industry. She has been a source on sex-related topics for Entertainment Weekly, Cosmopolitan, MSNBC, Marie Claire, Sex TV, Wired and E! Her essays appear in “Virgin Territory” (Three Rivers Press), “Best American Sex Essays 2005” (Cleis Press) and “Hooking Up: You’ll Never Make Love In This Town Again Again” (Phoenix Books). She curated “Naked Ambition” (Carroll & Graf), an anthology on how women in positions of power are influencing the sex industry.

Milne lives in Los Angeles.
