WASHINGTON - After internal discussions, the Diamondbacks have opted against pursuing Barry Bonds to aid a flagging offense, team sources indicated Wednesday.
Two bad losses for D-Backs in D.C.
Should they sign him? Pros, cons of adding Bonds

Nor are they interested in Texas DH/outfielder Milton Bradley, contrary to a radio report Wednesday.
General manager Josh Byrnes did not specifically address Bonds or possible alternatives, but did say that while any moves before the July 31 nonwaiver trading deadline would likely involve offense, they would be more likely to come via trade.
“If we do something on offense, whose at-bats are we replacing?” Byrnes said. “We would do something that makes sense, not do something just to do it.”
The D-Backs will need to replace left fielder Eric Byrnes’ at-bats the second half of the season after being told Tuesday that he almost certainly will miss the rest of the season because of a torn left hamstring suffered July 1.
Bonds’ agent, Jeff Borris said he believes Bonds would be “a perfect fit” in Arizona after playing at ASU and could be ready to play in a week to 10 days.
At the same time, Borris acknowledged that the D-Backs have shown no interest since Bonds became a free agent following the 2007 season.
“We never discussed dollars. They just said it wasn’t a good fit,” Borris said.
As for Bradley, he suffered a knee injury with San Diego last September and has been used primarily as a DH in Texas this season, making 55 of his 74 starts there while leading the AL with a .441 on-base percentage.
TAKING CARE OF WEBB
D-Backs manager Bob Melvin said he has been in contact with San Diego manager Bud Black, who is on the NL All-Star coaching staff, about the possibility of limiting or even holding Brandon Webb out of the All-Star game.
Webb, 13-4, will make his final start of the first half Sunday, and while the day of the All-Star game is his normal between-start throwing day, he also would have to heat up in the bullpen if he were to enter.
“We certainly don’t want to push a guy like Brandon Webb,” Melvin said. “Obviously, it’s an honor to be picked in that game, and if you are picked you want to pitch. Physically, it might be a little bit of a risk, depending on how he pitches (Sunday). With the expanded rosters, you have the ability to not pitch certain guys” if a team suggests it.
SHORT HOPS
Triple-A Tucson handyman Jamie D’Antona has been added to the Futures Game to replace Emilio Bonifacio, who was named to the team but is unable to participate after being recalled by the D-Backs last week.
D’Antona is hitting .376 with 13 home runs, 28 doubles and 55 RBIs while playing first base, third base, catcher and DH. D-Backs outfield prospect Gerardo Parra previously had been announced as a participant.
