Friday, July 4th is America’s birthday, with festivities planned across the Valley. If you want the patriotic spirit to linger long after the echo of Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA” (sometimes known as “Proud to Be an American”) fades, check out these red, white and blue offerings around the Santan area.

<< Red (smoothie): If you’re looking for something cool and red this weekend, drop by Juice Planet for a Caribbean Breeze smoothie. The fruit and yogurt concoction is made from a blend of sugary strawberries (the red) and pineapple. The independent shop also sells bagels, fresh juice and coffee.

>> Juice Planet, 235 E. Warner Road, Suite 106, Gilbert. (480) 733-8298.

>> White (Lotus): If you’d like to celebrate the birth of our country with luxuries our forefathers could only dream of — hair highlights, a bikini wax or a facial — White Lotus Salon and Spa in Gilbert has you covered. Kelli Watson, receptionist at White Lotus, says there aren’t too many places where you can get everything from hair coloring to makeup application to Swedish massage to ear candling. “We do everything here,” says Watson. “You don’t have to drive from place to place, which is nice with gas prices how they are.”

>> White Lotus Salon and Spa, 1530 S. Val Vista Drive, Suite 101, Gilbert. (480) 247-6879 or www.whitelotussalon.com.

The massive fitness center has 148,000 square feet of workout space and a large outdoor pool with a curlicue water slide and rain-spitting tower. Prices vary depending on what membership level you’re looking for, or you can try everything out by signing up for seven-day free trial online.
