New York Times best-selling author and onetime Valley resident Laurie Notaro is headed back to the East Valley — briefly.

She will read from her latest book, “The Idiot Girl and the Flaming Tantrum of Death: Reflections on Revenge, Germophobia, and Laser Hair Removal,” July 10 in Tempe.

The book is Notaro’s first collection of humorous essays in three years; it debuted in late June.

The Arizona State University graduate and former newspaper columnist, known for her acerbic riffs on some of life’s most embarrassing, annoying and mundane situations, published her first book, “The Idiot Girls’ Action-Adventure Club: True Tales From a Magnificent and Clumsy Life,” in 2002. The book garnered Notaro, self-proclaimed “dorkiest girl alive,” a strong following among 20- and 30-something women. Four more books of essays and a stab at fiction followed. She now lives in Oregon.

Notaro will appear 7 p.m. July 10 at Changing Hands Bookstore, 6428 S. McClintock Drive, Tempe. You must purchase Notaro’s book to receive a lettered ticket; the ticket gets you a seat and a space in the book-signing line. Seating begins at 6 p.m. Seating opens to the public at 6:45 p.m.
