A northeast Phoenix shopping center, hoping to attract upscale East Valley shoppers, has landed a bunch of new retailers to entice the big spenders.
CityNorth, the 70-acre retail-commercial-office complex under construction at 56th Street north of Loop 101 near the Scottsdale border, just snagged nine more shops and eateries, eight of them expected to open before the end of the year, retail developer Related Urban announced Monday.

Newly landed shops for its Phase I retail cluster, High Street, which is slated to officially debut Nov. 13, include Alessi, an Italian designer and manufacturer of elegant products for the kitchen and home. The Alessi store is a first for the Valley.
A couple of Valley-based retailers will try out new concepts at the urban shopping center. They include D&G Contemporary Home Designs - a furniture and gift gallery, Green Bone Bakery - an organic version of Three Dog Bakery, and Little Artika, which sells high-design children's furniture and fashions and said it will launch a flagship store for a new concept, SuperIgloo, Oct. 2 at CityNorth.
Also just announced for the first phase of CityNorth are Guess, Korean-based yogurt shop Yogurberry, King and Duck, a limited-edition clothing and shoe store aimed at the young, and Haus, a local contemporary home furnishings shop.
New restaurant 25 Degrees, an upscale burger joint fresh from the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood, Calif., is also on tap for High Street, CityNorth announced.
MAC Cosmetics has opted for space in the second retail phase of the project, to be anchored by Arizona's first Bloomingdale's and a new Nordstrom and slated to open in November 2010.
With the newly named retailers, High Street's 44 shop and restaurant spots are 90 percent full, said Webber Hudson, Related Urban executive vice president, in a statement.
"This wave of newly secured tenants continues to illustrate the quality and diversity that will characterize CityCenter of CityNorth and the commitment that renowned brands are showing in the development," Hudson said.
