The Arizona Cardinals signed the first member of their 2008 draft class, agreeing to a three-year contract on Thursday with fifth-round pick Tim Hightower.
Hightower, a 6-foot, 224-pound running back, broke 18 school rushing records at Richmond, including running for 1,924 yards and 20 touchdowns as a senior in 2007. The rushing total ranks as the third-highest total in Colonial Athletic Association history behind only Cardinals teammate Marcel Shipp (2,542 in 1998) and Jerry Azumah (2,195 in 1998).
Hightower, a first-team All-America selection by the Associated Press as a senior, also set school career records for rushing yards (3,712), all purpose yards (4,560), rushing touchdowns (34) and total touchdowns (39).
