Arizona Rattlers defensive back Isaiah Trufant, who played in his first game in nearly a month this past weekend, was named the Arena Football League’s defensive player of the week Tuesday.

Trufant had an interception and two forced fumbles in the first half against the Orlando Predators Saturday night. Despite missing the previous three games, he leads the team with 53 tackles, threes interceptions and 16 pass breakups.

Trufant and the Rattlers will be visiting Kansas City on Sunday, where they will face Quincy Carter, who was named the Brigade’s starting quarterback Tuesday. It will be the former Dallas Cowboy’s first action with the team after joining them last month.

FREE FISHING

• Unlicensed anglers in Arizona are getting an unexpected late spring windfall — the Arizona Game and Fish Department has decided anyone can fish state waters without a valid fishing license on Saturday and again June 14 this year.

“Since there has been some confusion on the 'real’ free fishing day — June 7 or June 14 — we decided that the only fair decision is to allow anglers to fish state waters on either of those Saturdays without a valid Arizona fishing license,” said fisheries chief Kirk Young in a news release.

A change in scheduling by the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation for National Fishing and Boating Week this year created some confusion, so some free fishing day events were set up for June 7, while others were scheduled for June 14 as it says in the department regulations.
