Kerr to interview former Suns player Corbin

Steve Kerr’s second week of searching for a coach for the Suns will include an interview with a former Suns player.
But it won’t be Dan Majerle, Eddie Johnson or Tom Chambers. It will be Utah assistant coach Tyrone Corbin, who was the second assistant to Jerry Sloan for the last four seasons after a 15-year NBA career.
Corbin, who has coached under both Sloan and Jazz veteran lead assistant Phil Johnson — whose name has also popped up in the Phoenix search — will likely interview with Phoenix on Friday.
Corbin has already spoken with Chicago about its vacant head coaching position during a break in the playoffs and could be in line for a second interview there, leaving him as one of the few crossovers on the lists of the two teams in the league without coaches.
Corbin, who played 15 seasons and more than 1,000 games with nine NBA teams, will talk with the Suns after Houston assistant coach Elston Turner is interviewed on Wednesday.
Former NBA point guards Terry Porter and Mark Jackson have also been interviewed for the position, and at least one or two more candidates will talk with Kerr before the second round of interviews begins.
The Suns would like to talk with one or two people still involved in the playoffs, with names like Mike Budenholzer (San Antonio), Tom Thibodeau (Boston), Brian Shaw (Los Angeles) and Kurt Rambis (Los Angeles) looming as possible candidates.
Corbin, 45, came to Phoenix in one of the most celebrated trades in Phoenix history. Corbin, Kevin Johnson, Mark West and a first-round pick used to draft Dan Majerle came to the Suns as part of the Larry Nance trade with Cleveland (Feb. 25, 1988).
Known as a versatile, hard-working small forward, Corbin played a key role on a Suns team that went from 28 to 55 wins from 1988 to 1989 and began the climb toward an NBA Finals appearance in 1993.
