Eric Byrnes better get used to Van Halen again. A music switch correlated with a slump-busting night as Byrnes helped the Diamondbacks rally for a 4-3 win over the Detroit Tigers on Friday night at Chase Field.

D-Backs notebook: Same swing, better results for Drew

Byrnes went 2-for-3 with a homer and two RBIs while walking to the plate to “Jump” by Van Halen, following a 6-for-62 slump with The Outfield’s “Your Love” blasting from the public-address system.

Van Halen was his walk-up music last season.

“(Chris) Snyder changed my music,” Byrnes said. “I was upset. I figured they changed it up top, and I was like, you’ve got to be kidding me.

“Look, whether or not I’m getting hits has nothing to do with the music. And I like hearing The Outfield, so even when I wasn’t getting hits it was nice to hear The Outfield. Now Snyder’s not going to let me change it back.”

Byrnes homered in the fifth inning to cut a 3-0 deficit to two, then singled in a run in the seventh to bring the Diamondbacks within one.

Chris Young followed with a two-out single to tie the score, and Augie Ojeda scored on Carlos Guillen’s throwing error with two outs in the inning with the eventual winning run. Guillen and shortstop Edgar Renteria also let an easy foul ball drop earlier because of miscommunication.

Juan Cruz struck out the side in a scoreless eighth, and Tony Pena got his first save in the ninth with relievers Brandon Lyon and Chad Qualls unavailable after heavy workloads the past few days.

Dan Haren gave up three runs in seven innings to get his fifth win of the year.

Byrnes grew a mustache during a 14-game hitting streak earlier this year.

“I kept the mustache, yeah, but that just gave me an excuse to grow it,” Byrnes said. “All I was looking for was an excuse to grow the mustache, but I didn’t believe I was hitting because of the mustache … I won’t be shaving tonight. I’ve been shaving a lot lately.”
