During a nine-minute 911 call, Paradise Valley Community College psychology professor Michael Todd calmly told a dispatcher that Andria Ziegler did cocaine and drank 17 beers at his home hours before she died.

The call, made at 2:34 a.m. April 20 from Todd's north Phoenix home, described Ziegler as not breathing after Todd said he discovered her lying on his couch and was unable to wake her.

Todd, 51, had sought the help of a neighbor, but they were unable to revive Ziegler, 19, who Todd described to a dispatcher as just a friend, according to the 911 call released by the Phoenix Police Department on Thursday.

"What's going on there?" the dispatcher asked Todd.

"That's Andria. She's just a friend," he said.

When the dispatcher asked what happened, Todd said, "Well, we sat around, uh, while she did some coke. I went upstairs and went to bed, and apparently she continued using, and when I came back down about an hour and a half later, she was unconscious. I tried to get her up, but couldn't."

Todd told the dispatcher he drank one beer and didn't say whether he used cocaine.

Ziegler, one of Todd's students for the last two semesters and most recently in his abnormal psychology class, was pronounced dead at 3:18 a.m. at John C. Lincoln Deer Valley Hospital.

Todd and his neighbor went to the hospital and after a worker there told them Ziegler had died, and that the worker would have to call the police and medical examiner, Todd told his neighbor, "I gotta get outta here," according to a 27-page Phoenix police report released Thursday.

Police are awaiting toxicology reports from the Maricopa County Medical Examiner's Office to determine Ziegler's cause of death. Police continue to investigate the incident as an unknown death, and Todd is not a suspect in Ziegler's death and no suspects are being sought, police said.

According to the police report, Todd told authorities he saw Ziegler that evening walking as he was driving to a nearby convenience store. He picked her up and drove her to her car, which he said was stalled and helped her get it started.

After Todd returned home, he said Ziegler knocked on his door and wanted to talk to him, the report said.

Todd said Ziegler later refused to leave his home and he told her she could sleep on his couch.

Paradise Valley Community College administrators last week began efforts to fire Todd from his job for having an inappropriate relationship with a student, a violation of the college's policy.
