A former Scottsdale Chaparral High School science teacher has pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual conduct with a minor for a sexual relationship he had with a female former student in the early 1980s.
Former teacher indicted on sex charges
Paul Knutson, 59, who had been teaching science at a high school in Arkansas since 1995, pleaded guilty to the charges in Maricopa County Superior Court on Friday.
He was arrested at his home in Little Flock, Ark. in early September on suspicion of sexual with a conduct with a minor, a day after he was indicted on the charges by a Maricopa County grand jury.
The woman told Scottsdale police in 2006 she began having a sexual relationship with Knutson in 1983 when she was 16, and the relationship continued through 1985.
The woman claims she and Knutson used to have sex and smoke marijuana together and that he taught her how to freebase cocaine, according to Maricopa County Superior Court documents.
The victim told police she came forward after more than two decades to report the relationship because she now is a drug addict and receiving counseling for her addiction.
Knutson will be sentenced in Maricopa County Superior Court on June 20.
