Rapper DMX was arrested Friday at his Cave Creek home on suspicion of seven counts of animal cruelty and four counts of drug possession.

DPS cites rapper DMX for high speeds on Loop 101

The arrest came eight months after an August raid on his property at 2708 E. Carlise Road, north of Carefree Highway and east of Seventh Street, where Maricopa County sheriff’s deputies found 12 malnourished pit bulls and the remains of three dogs.

In that incident, authorities also discovered numerous weapons and drugs.

At 3 a.m. Friday, deputies conducted a search warrant on the home of the 37-year-old musician/actor, whose real name is Earl Simmons, and found more weapons, drugs and five pit bull-mix puppies.

Authorities said Simmons tried to barricade himself in his bedroom while deputies searched the house, but he eventually came out and was taken to Maricopa County’s Fourth Avenue Jail.

Deputies are serving another search warrant at the Mayo Clinic, near 56th Street and Mayo Boulevard in Phoenix, to collect evidence in a possible fraud scheme the rapper is suspected in.

Simmons was also arrested on Tuesday by the Arizona Department of Public Safety on suspicion of driving 100 mph on Loop 101 through Scottsdale.

The rapper posted bail Wednesday and had been home only about two days before he was again taken into custody.

Simmons has a lengthy record of run-ins with the law, beginning with a drug possession charge in 1994. He has also been arrested on suspicion of impersonating a federal agent.

In 2004, the rapper was arrested for driving 104 mph on a New York freeway.
