State authorities have arrested rapper DMX on suspicion of driving at speeds exceeding 100 mph on Loop 101 through Scottsdale.
The 37-year-old musician/actor, whose real name is Earl Simmons, was taken into custody Tuesday at his Cave Creek residence, the Arizona Department of Public Safety said.
Simmons was booked on two counts of endangerment, three counts of criminal speeding, racing on a highway, reckless driving and driving on a suspended license.
According to DPS, on the night of Jan. 21 a speed enforcement camera caught Simmons, at the wheel of a 1966 Chevy Nova II, driving north on the freeway at 100 mph. A minute later, the camera at Cactus Road recorded Simmons' speed as 114 mph. Less than three minutes later, a third camera snapped Simmons traveling 101 mph.
The posted speed limit is 65 mph; the cameras are triggered at 76 mph.
This is the second time in recent months Simmons has been in trouble with Valley authorities.
Last August, the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office raided Simmons' property at 2708 E. Carlise Road, north of Carefree Highway east of Seventh Street, and found 12 malnourished pit bulls and the remains of three dogs.
Investigators also discovered numerous weapons and drugs.
No charges have been filed against Simmons. Coincidentally, the day Simmons was arrested by DPS officers, a Valley radio station quoted Sheriff Joe Arpaio as declaring that the case is still active.
"Very soon, I will announce a resolution to that case," Arpaio said Tuesday, according to a report on KTAR.com.
Simmons was cooperative during his arrest and booking into Scottsdale City Jail, DPS said. He posted bail Wednesday.
"Mr. Simmons wasn't singled out because of his notoriety," DPS Director Roger Vanderpool said. "We have made several arrests in the last few months of those people who flagrantly violate the speed limit and therefore endanger the lives of everyone else on the road."
Simmons has a lengthy record of run-ins with the law, beginning with a drug possession charge in 1994. He has also been arrested on suspicion of impersonating a federal agent.
In 2004, Simmons was arrested for driving 104 mph on a New York freeway.
