Worker killed in Gilbert farm accident

Comments | Recommend

David Biscobing, Tribune

A Gilbert farm worker was killed Tuesday morning after he was crushed by more than 7,000 pounds of hay, police said.

The man was helping other workers load hay bales with a forklift onto a flatbed truck just before 6 a.m. at a site near Val Vista Drive and Germann Road.

Somehow he got in front of the hay bale as the forklift was loading it, authorities said. The forklift then pinned him with the hay on top of him.

He suffered serious head injuries and was flown to Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn.

Authorities are investigating the incident. However, police believe the death was an accident.

The man’s name hasn’t been released.
