Mesa police seek mom in kidnap, assault case

Gary Grado, Tribune

Mesa police are looking for a woman who they say kidnapped her children and attacked her husband with a pair of pruning shears.

Detective Chris Arvayo, Mesa police spokesman, said Anna Ellis, 37, is believed to be a danger to her 10-year-old and 9-year-old daughters.

Ellis attempted suicide last month and is on medication for mental illness.

Arvayo said her ex-husband, Scott Ellis, reported Thursday that she had attacked him at his home about 7 p.m.

Investigators learned that Anna Ellis had taken the girls, Paige and Brynne Ellis, out of school about 9:30 a.m. Thursday and they hadn’t been seen since then.

Arvayo said police have enough evidence to arrest her on suspicion of aggravated assault and felony trespassing.

She was last seen driving a black 2008 Honda Pilot, Arizona license plate 771VRH4.
