Cards notebook: Linebacker Dansby signs 1-year, $8M deal
Mike Tulumello, Tribune
Karlos Dansby, as expected, signed his one-year, $8 million one-year tender from the Cardinals on Thursday.
Dansby, who signed the deal after being named the team’s franchise player, has until July 15 to work out a long-term deal.
The team and Dansby, however, appear to be far apart on the terms of such a deal.
The Cardinals could use the franchise tag again after the upcoming season on Dansby.
Dansby (6-foot-4, 250 pounds) was the Cardinals’ second-round selection (No. 33 overall) in their highly productive 2004 draft. He played outside linebacker then shifted inside last season, when he enjoyed a career year.
He started 14 games and collected a career-high 117 tackles, 3 1/2 sacks, three interceptions and three forced fumbles.
CARDS SIGN STEWART
The Cardinals signed linebacker Matt Stewart to a one-year contract.
Stewart played for four seasons (2001-04) for the Atlanta Falcons, then spent the last three years with the Cleveland Browns. He spent last season on injured reserve with a shoulder problem.
For his career, Stewart has appeared in 93 games (61 starts) and collected 355 tackles (197 solos), eight sacks, one interception, three fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles to go along with 36 special-teams tackles.
