The Cardinals will open their 2008 preseason schedule at home with a nationally televised game vs. the New Orleans Saints.

The game will kick off at 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7.

The Cardinals will hit the road for the second and third preseason games, playing at Kansas City and Oakland. They’ll close the exhibition season at home vs. Denver.

Specific dates and times for the final three games have not yet been determined. The 2008 regular season schedule is expected to be announced later this month.

GREEN, SMITH SIGN OFFERS

Cornerback Eric Green and defensive end Antonio Smith have signed their one-year qualifying offers of about $2 million from the Cardinals for the upcoming season.

Green and Smith had until April 18 to sign the offers. They had the right to negotiate with other clubs but the Cardinals had the right to match any offer or receive a first-round pick as compensation.

Green started all 11 games he appeared in last season for the Cardinals and collected a career high 56 tackles (46 solos) and 12 passes defensed. He was placed on the season-ending injured reserved list on Nov. 27 after suffering a groin injury.

Green was a Round 3 draft pick in 2005 out of Virginia Tech. He’s appeared in 38 games with 24 starts, collecting 137 tackles (122 solos), one interception, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.

Smith was a Round 5 pick in the Cardinals’ highly successful 2004 draft. He started a career-high 13 games last season and had personal bests of 60 tackles (41 solos), 5.5 sacks and a team-high three fumble recoveries.
