Two of the biggest arena rock bands of the ‘70s and ‘80s, Boston and Styx, will team up for a double bill at the Dodge Theatre, 400 W. Washington Ave., Phoenix, on Friday, June 27.
Boston released their self-titled debut album in 1976, and the disc still stands as the greatest selling debut record in history, with over 17 million units sold. The album contains the FM radio hits “More Than a Feeling,” “Peace of Mind” and “Foreplay/Long Time,” but the band’s subsequent records, including “Don’t Look Back” (1978), “Third Stage” (1986) and “Corporate America” (1992) were less successful.
The summer tour will be Boston’s first since the death of founding vocalist Brad Delp, who committed suicide in 2007. Stryper singer Michael Sweet will be handling vocal duties.
Styx began as an art/prog-rock band in the early ‘70s and scored a hit single with “Lady” in 1975, but it wasn’t until after the release of their 1977 album, “Grand Illusion,” that Styx became an arena headliner. Some of the band’s biggest FM hits include “Come Sail Away,” “Blue Collar Man,” “Babe” and “Mr. Roboto.”
Tickets for the Dodge Theatre show go on sale 10 a.m. Monday, March 31, at the Dodge Theatre box office, all Ticketmaster outlets and online at ticketmaster.com and livenation.com.
