A former English teacher at Paradise Valley High School pleaded guilty Friday morning to sexual conduct with a student and faces up to six years in prison.
SPECIAL REPORT: Tribune looks into sexual misconduct in schools
Jennifer Diane Mally, 27, had previously pleaded not guilty to a string of sexual acts with the 16-year-old male student from October 2006 to April 2007. But her attorney told the judge on Friday that the former teacher is ready to move on with her life.
"She did what she was accused of and is accepting responsibility for her actions," attorney Mel McDonald told Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Andrew Klein. "She's remorseful."
Mally was originally charged with 29 criminal counts, but some were dropped for lack of evidence. She pleaded guilty to three felony counts of sexual conduct with a minor and is scheduled to be sentenced on May 9.
Mally, who surrendered her teaching certificate in February, faces a fine of up to $150,000. She also faces four months to six years in prison or one year in jail followed by lifetime probation. She must also register as a sex offender.
In addition, Mally must pay $1,650 in restitution to the victim's family to cover the costs of counseling.
She appeared in court with her husband and kept her eyes focused on the judge.
