FBI agents arrested a Chandler man Tuesday on suspicion of stalking a Border Patrol agent.
According to a criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Phoenix, John Chleboun, 27, harassed agent Felix Passi by vandalizing his property in Maricopa and making repeated threatening telephone calls between Jan. 17 and Sunday.
Passi’s work truck windshield was smashed, motor oil was poured over his personal car, and a glass door to his home was broken.
FBI agents were able to identify Chleboun as a suspect through cell phone records, according to the criminal complaint.
The FBI alleges that Chleboun showed up at Passi’s house at 4 a.m. on Feb. 28 and banged on his doors.
He is charged with threatening a federal law enforcement officer with the intent to impede, intimidate or interfere with him while engaging in the performance of official duties.
The court document does not say why Chleboun targeted Passi, except that the agent’s wife once was romantically involved with Chleboun.
Special agent Manuel Johnson, FBI spokesman, said Chleboun was arrested at the Red Roof Inn, 7400 W. Boston St. by the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force, which is comprised of officers from the Mesa and Scottsdale police departments and deputies from the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.
