Chandler police arrested seven suspected Phoenix gang members Wednesday on accusations they robbed houses used for stashing drugs and illegal immigrants.

According to Detective Frank Mendoza, Chandler police spokesman, detectives got a tip that a group of men were raiding stash houses around the Valley.
“They’re organized, or they wouldn’t know where to go to get these stash houses,” Mendoza said. “They do their homework, that’s their business.”
Detectives lured the group to a vacant home at 887 W. Germann Road, where the officers moved in to arrest the men.
The individuals scattered — some on foot and some in two cars — and one of them was injured when he was hit by one of the cars.
“It was people running everywhere to get away from the long arm of the law,” Mendoza said.
Arrested were Dante Paul Cherry, 21; Joseph Lavance Smith II, 30; Carlos G. Smith, 27; Brian Keith Ross, 33; Dawone Montay Jones, 26; Aaron James Hagler, 22; and James Gonsalvez, 32.
Cherry was taken to the hospital and treated for internal injuries.
Police found two rifles, two handguns and body armor at the scene.
Mendoza said the suspects targeted stash houses because the robberies weren’t likely to be reported to police.
