Former Arizona State infielder Brandon Macias said Tuesday he answered “maybe three” questions of a 10-question online quiz for current Sun Devil pitcher Jason Jarvis in the fall of 2007.

ASU pitcher Jarvis faces eligibility issues
Macias, now at South Mountain Community College, said he was doing a favor for Jarvis, who was having car trouble and couldn’t get home in time to take the quiz. Students had to sign in at a set time for their answers to be accepted, Macias said.
“Jason was like, ‘Hey man, can you help me out?’” said Macias, adding he couldn’t remember the subject of the course. “I started it for him and he finished it.”
ASU is conducting an internal investigation into allegations of academic fraud, recruiting violations, improper use of training by players at Athletes’ Performance in Tempe, and violations regarding players working for Murphy’s nonprofit Programs for Youth (PTM).
The charges were made in January by former graduate manager Mikel Moreno.
Macias said ASU baseball coach Pat Murphy never instructed him to take a test for Jarvis, nor did he recall Murphy ever instructing any other players to take tests for Jarvis, who regained his eligibility over the weekend.
Macias said he was contacted by ASU officials regarding their investigation, but that he has yet to be interviewed.
ASU is not commenting on details of the investigation.
When told about Macias’ allegation, Murphy said, “If I had knowledge any of our kids cheated on a test, they would not be on the team.”
School officials have told ASU’s players and coaches not to talk to the media.
