The Cardinals are negotiating to bring back defensive end/linebacker Bertrand Berry for the upcoming season, his agent said Tuesday.
Berry has one year left on his contract at a salary cap number of $5 million.
Because the Cardinals would save $4 million by releasing him, there has been widespread speculation the team would let him go.
But Gregory Williams, Berry's agent, said, "He will be back," while suggesting Berry's salary will be renegotiated to a lower number.
"We're talking about it now," Williams said.
Berry's 2007 season ended early because of injury for the third straight year.
After enjoying a big year with the Cardinals in 2004 - when he led the NFC with 14 1/2 sacks - Berry went down with a torn pectoral muscle in 2005 after eight games.
In 2006, Berry suffered a season-ending right triceps injury in the season's 10th game.
Last year, he suffered a torn triceps injury in the ninth game.
