Candidates for mayor and council are hard at work raising funds for signs, advertising and local events and one former city employee was found to be in the mix of giving to several of these campaigns.
Former City Manager Rick Buss, who was released from the city with a severance package in August, has given $50 each to the campaigns of council candidates Carl Diedrich, Marquisha Griffin, Marvin Brown and mayoral candidate Anthony Smith.
The first round of campaign finance reports was collected by the city on Jan. 31 for each of the candidates that has formed a Statement of Organization, according to City Clerk Vanessa Bueras.
Incumbent Kelly Haddad and Marty Hermanson were the other two candidates who have formed organizations and filed finance reports thus far, which covered the time period from June 6 to Dec. 31.
Brown has spent most of his own money on the campaign to date, nearly $2,500. Smith has spent just slightly more than Brown, but has raised much more of his funding from the community.
Haddad has the biggest war chest remaining, with more than $1,800 cash-on-hand raised from supporters being carried forward into the current spending cycle.
