A 28-year-old burglary suspect left his toddler son at a crime scene in the middle of the night as he fled from cops, police say.
Jeremy D. Henderson, who was booked on suspicion of burglary, criminal trespass and endangerment Tuesday, also got bit by a Mesa police dog as he tried to hide, according to court documents.
Police were called to 9920 E. Diamond Ave. at 2:30 a.m. to check out a suspicious activity. Someone parked in front of the house and went in the open garage.
When police arrived, the man in the garage bolted. Officers checked the car and found a 3-year-old boy sleeping in the car seat.
Police tracked him to a backyard at 9958 E. Dolphin Circle, where a police dog bit him.
Henderson said the child was his son and he had tried to drop him off at his mother’s house, but she didn’t answer.
Henderson said he drove around the neighborhood and found the open garage door. He wanted to keep warm so he went inside to see what he could find.
The homeowner reported some items removed and tampered with.
The child was turned over to his mother, according to detective Diana Tapia, Mesa police spokeswoman.
