A first conference loss didn’t sway voters much this week, as the Arizona State men’s basketball team clung to the No. 24 ranking in Monday’s Associated Press poll and (barely) fell out of the rankings in the ESPN/USA Today coaches poll.
Last week, the Sun Devils were ranked 22nd in the AP poll and 25th in the coaches poll, where they received 61 votes, tops among non-ranked schools.
The Sun Devils (14-3, 4-1 Pac-10) won a double-overtime thriller at California last Thursday, then lost their first Pac-10 game of the season at Stanford on Saturday.
After sweeping the Arizona schools at home, the Cardinal (15-3, 3-2) moved back into the Top 25 in both polls for the third time this season.
Washington State (16-1, 4-1) moved up to No. 6 in both polls, tops among the Pac-10 schools. After a loss to USC, UCLA moved down to No. 8 in the AP poll and No. 7 in the coaches poll, followed by Stanford (No. 20 in AP poll) and ASU.
North Carolina lost its first game of the season last weekend, which allowed Memphis to take over at No. 1 for the first time since 1983.
The Sun Devils hosts Washington on Thursday night, followed by Washington State on Saturday afternoon.
