Senior living center in Gilbert taking reservations

Beth Lucas, Tribune

A senior living facility under construction near downtown Gilbert has caught the attention of many retirees who want to live in the town noted for its large population of young families.

Sunrise Senior Living is opening its offices Thursday at the facility, 580 S. Gilbert Road, to answer inquiries from seniors who have little other senior community options in town now.

The community itself, with upscale apartments, including 67 independent living, 34 assisted living and 43 memory support homes, will open in August.

“We’re already beginning to take reservations on the apartments,” said Maia Bonner, director of community relations. “There’s actually a huge amount of interest. We’re receiving a lot of calls, and a lot of the calls we’re receiving are from people who have adult children in the area, or whose parents live out of town.”

Area residents belonging to the Lago Estancia homeowners association had opposed the project, originally planned with one four-story building, but later supported changes reducing it to three stories.

The facility fills a need for alternative living for seniors, town officials have said, and they plan to attract more senior facilities. There are few other senior living areas in town, including two independent living complexes and the Trilogy homeowners association. But other companies have expressed interest in bringing additional senior facilities to Gilbert.

Rent begins at $2,700 a month at the units. For information on Sunrise Senior Living, call (480) 632-9400 or visit www.sunriseseniorliving.com/community/CommunityHome.do?from_search=1&commid=6401.
