Gilbert considers park smoking ordinance

Town staff and the council’s Parks and Recreation Advisory Board have recommended the council ban smoking within 100 feet of athletic fields, ramadas and other areas people typically gather.

Smoking would be allowed in designated areas, many of which would be in parking lots. Community Services director Jim Norman would be charged with designating where smoking is allowed.

The council earlier this year asked the advisory board to come up with specific recommendations on designated smoking areas.

The council is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Gilbert Municipal Center, 50 East Civic Center Drive.
