Waveyard’s vision for a resort in west Mesa to be anchored by a man-made white-water river and a wave pool for surfing was approved by voters almost a month ago.
Now, the resort’s developers are framing the look of the office, retail and commercial space planned as part of the development.
A book of design guidelines shows developers envision a theme of coastal Mediterranean and tropical Caribbean architecture and a rustic craftsmen-style.
The 121-acre development at Eighth Street and Dobson Road was approved by 65 percent of the city’s voters Nov. 6. The resort could be open by 2010.
“We have very, very high development standards and we want that from anyone who comes into the project,” said Richard Mladick, a co-founder of Waveyard LLC.
The project’s design guidelines took a little flack from members of the city’s Design Review Board who said that the guidelines could create a “hodgepodge” of different building styles. However, they unanimously approved the project’s guidelines Wednesday.
“We’ve got a fusion of all of these things,” said Robert Burgheimer, an advisory board member. “What areas are the same and which are different.”
