GONE: Brittnee Plant has been missing for two weeks. SUBMITTED

Like most teenage girls, Brittnee Plant can’t go a day without styling her hair and putting on makeup. But the 13-year-old Mesa girl hasn’t been able to do that — she has been missing for two weeks — and that’s one reason her mother thinks she’s in danger.

Police looking for missing Mesa teen

“She didn’t take anything with her at all,” Brittnee’s mom, Lesa Stephens, said on Monday.

Police have launched an investigation into the disappearance of Brittnee from her home. An investigator is following up on leads, said Mesa police spokesman Steve Berry.

“At 13 she’s just not ready to be out there on her own, so it’s very important to us,” Berry said.

Stephens noticed her daughter was missing on Nov. 20 when she didn’t find the girl in her room. Since then, Brittnee’s father has spoken to the teen twice, and Stephens has spoken to her daughter once.

“She said, ‘Hey, Mom, I’m calling to say I love you guys,’ ” Stephens said.

But then she hung up the phone. Stephens said she thinks someone walked into the room as her daughter was calling, prompting the girl to end the conversation abruptly. And since she hasn’t heard from her daughter at all for more than a week, she is especially worried.

“It’s just not in her character. She’s a normal teenager,” Stephens said. “She’s a good girl, and I know that she would continue to call or at least let us know she was OK.”

Police and Stephens said the girl was having “teenage” problems before she disappeared.

Police said Brittnee might be with a man named Chris, but they don’t have any other information on him. Stephens said Chris is homeless and has tried to lure her daughter away before.

“We just miss her, and we really need her home,” Stephens said.
