The Cardinals are waiting to determine whether Anquan Boldin can play again this season. Boldin, already slowed by a hip injury that caused him to miss three games, dislocated the second toe on his left foot Sunday.

As coach Ken Whisenhunt understands it, the issues involves how much damage was done, the likelihood of Boldin dislocating the toe again, and — beyond this — pain management and tolerance.
By today or Wednesday, the Cardinals may be ready to announce their treatment plans for Boldin.
The hip injury also seems to have affected Boldin’s play since his return.
“I’m sure he has pain there,” Whisenhunt said. “That was a very tramautic injury. He fought hard to get back.
“The only thing that’s going to get that better is rest.”
The Cardinals are also uncertain about their other star receiver.
In a bit of a surprise for Whisenhunt, Larry Fitzgerald sat out Sunday’s game with Cleveland with a sore groin.
“I was optimistic that he would play in the game, and he didn’t,” Whisenhunt said. “I hope he’ll be able to go” on Sunday.
WHEW, GOT THAT ONE
Whisenhunt acknowledged “a sense of relief for all of us” after escaping with the narrow win Sunday over Cleveland after the debacle the previous week vs. San Francisco.
“Last week was such an emotional game. It was so hard to take.”
Then, after pulling out the win Sunday on the final play, Whisenhunt said: “Physically, mentally and emotionally, they were drained.”
GOAL-LINE CHANGE
The Cardinals have made the transition to using Kurt Warner the whole game instead of inserting Tim Rattay in goal-line situations.
They had done so because in such packed-in situations, Whisenhunt feared Warner — with his damaged left elbow — would be susceptible to losing the ball.
But Warner appears healthy enough now to allow the change, the coach indicated.
He joked that the switch would have to be “re-evaluated” after Warner’s short pass to Leonard Pope — which hit him in the hands — fell incomplete.
“Poorly thrown… right in the mid-section.”
LOVE THOSE TRICK PLAYS
Whisenhunt had a certain admiration for the trick play used by the Browns for a 2-point conversion.
On the play, receiver Josh Cribbs stood behind center, took the snap and completed a pass over the middle.
“Who threw that pass?” Whisenhunt asked reporters? “Did a receiver throw that pass?
“So was that a good call or not a good call?”
His point: He was ripped by pundits for calling a similar play, where Boldin unsuccessfully tried to hit Fitzgerald with a pass on a 2-point conversion in a narrow loss at Washington.
EXTRA POINT
The Cardinals seem to be establishing a custom — “Victory Monday” — where they get the day off completely after a win.
Whisenhunt said players at this time of year can use a day off mentally as much as physically.
“It excites the team because they get an extra day off. What is a good sign, is a number of those guys — when they have a day off — have been in here working out.”
