A Scottsdale father was arrested on suspicion of endangerment after crashing an all-terrain vehicle with his three children who were not wearing helmets, police said Monday.
Lonny Draper, 44, was riding the ATV with his three children, ages 4, 7 and 9 in the area of North 122nd Street and Paraiso Drive about 3:30 p.m. Saturday when he attempted to turn the vehilce on a steep incline causing it to roll over in the preserve, according to police.
Draper suffered a broken hip while his children had minor injuries, police said. Draper was flown to John C. Lincoln Medical Center by helicopter and the children were taken to Scottsdale Healthcare Shea hospital.
ATV riders under the age of 18 are required by state law to wear a helmet, and police and the preserve unit remind drivers not to transport more than the recommended of passengers by the vehicle’s manufacturer.
