Cards notebook: Berry out for rest of season
From Staff Reports
Defensive end/linebacker Bertrand Berry will miss the rest of the season after the Cardinals placed him on injured reserve Tuesday with a torn left triceps injury.
Berry, injured in Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions, has had his season end prematurely for three straight seasons.
In his first season after signing with the Cardinals as a free agent, Berry went down with a pectoral muscle injury after eight games. Last year, he suffered a season-ending right triceps injury (also against Detroit) in the 10th game of the year.
Darryl Blackstock and Joe Tafoya will share time at Berry’s place in the starting lineup. The Cardinals also signed defensive end Bo Schobel to a one-year contract on Tuesday.
Schobel (6-foot-5, 264 pounds) appeared in 14 games in 2006 as a reserve lineman for the Indianapolis Colts, collecting 21 tackles and a half-sack. Schobel, originally a fourth-round draft pick of the Tennessee Titans in 2004, is a cousin of Buffalo Bills defensive end Aaron Schobel and Eagles tight end Matt Schobel.
DANSBY PLAYER OF WEEK
Linebacker Karlos Dansby has been named NFC Defensive Player of the Week after his performance in Sunday’s 31-21 victory over the Detroit Lions.
Dansby had two interceptions, a forced fumble, four tackles and two passes defended in his first game back after missing two games due to a knee injury.
His interception in the first quarter led to a Cardinals field goal and his forced fumble in the second half led to a Cardinals touchdown.
The Cardinals held the Lions to minus-18 rushing yards, the lowest total in a game since the NFL adopted its modern statistical rules regarding rushing plays in 1947.
