East Valley briefs: Freshman Drouin leads ASU wrestlers

Arizona State freshman Chris Drouin (141 pounds) picked up three individual victories, including a pair of falls and one major decision, to lead the Sun Devils wrestling team to three victories Sunday at the Portland State Duals in Portland, Ore.

ASU scored wins over Pacific (45-6), Southern Oregon (30-7) and host Portland State (36-9) and improved to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the Pac-10.

ASU will compete at the Keystone Classic, hosted by Pennsylvania, next Sunday.

MINOR LEAGUE HOCKEY

• Tyler Mosienko and Curtis Fraser each tallied a goal and added three assists and the Las Vegas Wranglers swept a two-game weekend series, defeating the Phoenix RoadRunners 5-1 at US Airways Center in ECHL action.

The RoadRunners are 5-7-0 and the Wranglers improved to 7-2-0.

CROSS COUNTRY

• The Arizona State men’s and women’s teams were selected to compete in the 2007 NCAA Cross Country Championships, set for Nov. 19, in Terre Haute, Ind., the national governing body announced.

Both teams were among the 13 at-large selections made for each of the races that will be held to determine national team and individual championships as well as All-America honors.

The men will compete in the first race of the day, the 10,000-meter run, with women’s distance set at 6,000 meters.
