The Coyotes cleared up part of the logjam along their blue line Monday morning, trading defenseman Dennis Seidenberg to the Carolina Hurricanes for checking-line center Kevyn Adams.
Adams, 32, has two goals and four points and is a minus-10 in 35 games this season. He returned to Carolina’s lineup Saturday after missing the previous nine games due to wrist surgery and a staph infection.
In 480 games over nine seasons, Adams (6-foot-1, 195 pounds) has 58 goals and 126 points.
The deal is nearly a wash financially as Adams, who is due to become a free agent this summer, will make $725,000 this season while Seidenberg’s contract is for $750,000.
Seidenberg, acquired Jan. 19, 2006 from Philadelphia for Petr Nedved, had one goal, two points and was a minus-4 in 32 games this season. He was also a healthy scratch the past four games.
