Scottsdale Community College continued its quest to defend its NJCAA Division I golf title by taking a four-stroke lead in the second round of the men’s national championships in Huntsville, Ala.

SCC has shot a 600 in two days of play, good enough to pull ahead of Midland (Texas) Community College, which had held the first-day lead.

Skyler Riley was in third place in the individual standings for the Artichokes, three shots behind the leader after shooting a 74, while teammate Rich Saferian shot a 72 to pull into a tie for fourth.

In the NJCAA Division II golf championships at Palm Valley Golf Course in Goodyear, Mesa Community College closed the gap in its quest for a title after shooting a 298 on Wednesday.

MCC, behind Brent Hobbs’ 71 and Andrew Augustyniak’s 72, fought off windy conditions to pull within three strokes of first-place Tyler (Texas) Junior College.

Hobbs finished the day two strokes behind the leader, Garrett Smith of Muskegon Community College, with a two-day total of 142. Augustyniak is tied for fifth with a 145.

Meanwhile, Chandler-Gilbert Community College moved into a tie for seventh in the team standings with a two-round total of 607.
