Well, when it comes to the NFL playoffs, you can start spreadin’ the news.

They’re eliminated today. Don’t wanna be a part of it.

New York. New York.

The Jets lost to the Patriots; no big news there. And I still can’t decide between the Giants and the Cowboys as to who wanted it less. When you back into the playoffs like that, the only thing waiting for you is a cliff.

SEE YOU LATER

Best of luck to Mike Swanson, who is leaving the Diamondbacks after a decade as their first and only head of public relations. He’s headed home to Kansas City, where he began his baseball career 34 years ago, to be the Royals’ vice president of communications and broadcasting (I hear he gets Rush Limbaugh’s old office).

Good luck, Swanny. I don’t know how you’ll get along in a city without hockey, but one tour of duty baby-sitting Randy Johnson is enough for anyone.

A WHOLE LOT OF LETTUCE

With $44 million in deferred payments (which were more than likely pushed back further upon renegotiation) and another $24 million for the new two-year deal — stretched over four years — the D-Backs now owe the Big Unit $68 million.

This for a guy who, upon leaving New York Friday, inspired Daily News headline writers to offer up “Good Riddance.” That’s the kind of fat ink usually reserved for ARod and Isiah Thomas in Gotham.

A COUPLE OF SIX PACKS

When was the last time the Suns and Coyotes were on six-game winning streaks at the same time?

A hint, it’s easier to look up Coyote streaks first, then compare.

The Desert Dogs have collected 12 points in six games and six points in just more than 72 hours after Sunday’s 4-2 win in Chicago. Phoenix is — dare I say this — back in the NHL playoff conversation with half a season to go.

Mike Zigomanis is scoring goals. Mikael Tellqvist is stopping them. And Jeremy Roenick, a week shy of his 37th birthday, gave Chicago fans one last hurrah Sunday with a goal and an assist.

Now management must take the money saved from dumping Mike Comrie and go get another scoring threat to reward this coaching staff and hard-working team for not giving up.

QUICK HITTERS

• You will no longer hear Suns public address announcer Jeff Scott calling Amaré Stoudemire “Stat Man” after his slam dunks at US Airways Center. Stoudemire wasn’t pleased with the moniker — an astute decision on his part.

• Mike Ricci has always been a team guy. And as hard as it is, the time has come to take it for the team one more time, and step aside so the Coyotes can chase a playoff spot at full strength.

• Ohio State 34, Florida 18. In a college football season dominated by arguments over who should be ranked where, the only thing we can all agree on is the Buckeyes are the best team in the country.
