DALLAS — In the first trade of the Josh Byrnes Era, the Diamondbacks acquired catcher Johnny Estrada from Atlanta on Wednesday. The D-Backs sent right-handers Oscar Villarreal and Lance Cormier to Atlanta.

Estrada, who won the NL Silver Slugger award in 2004, hit .261 with four home runs and 39 RBIs last season, missing time after a home-plate collision with Darin Erstad.

A switch-hitter, he is expected to complement Chris Snyder.

Villarreal was 2-0 with a 5.27 ERA in 11 games last season but was expected to fill a late-inning role this season.

Cormier was 7-3 with a 5.11 ERA and opened the season with 18 consecutive scoreless innings.

Estrada is eligible for salary arbitration and could earn about $2 million in 2006.
