Valley lands pro lacrosse franchise

Phoenix Coyotes chairman and governor Steve Ellman and National Lacrosse League commissioner Jim Jennings announced Thursday that the Columbus Landsharks lacrosse franchise will relocate to the Glendale Arena for the 2003-04 season.

The Landsharks will get a new name as well. A "name the team" contest will be held through Sept. 19. Fans can log on to the team's Web site,, to register and submit entries for the competition.

Play is expected to begin in late December, and the league's regular season typically runs 16 weeks with the Champion's Cup Playoffs to follow. The NLL regular season schedule will be released in September.
