Michael Affleck, QB, 6-3, 228, Timpview, Provo, Utah. SuperPrep All-American. Selected to prestigious elite Nike Super 11 quarterback camp last summer. Tacoma New Tribune Western 100. Old style drop-back passer. Strong arm. Passed 2,110 yards and 15 TDs with eight picks as junior, 2063 yards with 22 TDs and nine interceptions as a senior. Missed two games senior season for violating team rules. Completed 56 percent passes. Has qualified reported 2.9 GPA, 19 ACT.

Koetter quote: "He’s a perfect fit for our system."

Jesse Ainsworth, PK, 6-3, 195, Thousand Oaks, Calif. Western 100 selection. June commitment will replace Mike Barth as kicker. 11-of-16 on field goals with long of 56 yards. Averaged 43 yards as punter. Three-time All-California Interscholastic Federation. Reported 3.5 GPA and 1,240 SAT.

Koetter quote: "We have high expectations for Jesse."

Aaron Austin, TE, 6-5, 255, Dos Palos, Calif., Fresno City College. 2002 signee who has a non-qualifier out of high school, needed to get associate’s degree last summer to transfer. Spent fall finishing up and taking care of newborn child. Rated No. 1 junior college prospect for position in ‘02. Will participate in spring ball.

Koetter quote: "We’re looking for big things immediately."

Josh Barrett, S, 6-1, 195, Reno, Reno, Nev. 4A player of the year. Rushed for 460 yards and caught 22 passes. Returned 12 kickoffs, punts and interceptions for touchdowns. Has 3.4 GPA.

Koetter quote: "I think he’s a tremendously under-recruited player. He’s very very athletic."

Rudy Burgess, WR, 5-10, 180, Desert, Edwards, Calif. Caught 44 passes for 890 yards and 12 TDs. Returned seven kicks for TDs. Has 43-inch vertical jump, timed in 10.8 for 100 meters. Originally thought to be headed to Washington State. May major in graphic arts. Last report had not qualified.

Koetter quote: "He has explosiveness. Our version of Derek Hagan this year."

Justin Burks, LB, 6-3, 240, Norwalk, Calif., Cerritos College. JC Grid-Wire All-American. All-California JUCO selection. Had 165 tackles as sophomore, three sacks. Had 71 tackles and three sacks as freshman. Enrolled, will participate in spring practice.

Koetter quote: "He’ll compete for a starting job right off the bat."

Kyle Caldwell, DE, 6-4, 260, Saguaro, Scottsdale. SuperPrep All-American. SuperPrep Far West Defensive Player of the Year. Tribune 4A-2A Defensive Player of Year. Received nine Long Beach Press Telegram Best in West (BiW) votes. Western 100 selection. Good speed and quickness. Had 131 tackles, 20 sacks 32 tackles for losses last season. Son of former ASU defensive lineman Bryan Caldwell (1978-82). Has qualified with reported 3.0 GPA, 950 SAT.

Koetter quote: "He’d like to be the next Terrell Suggs. Kyle might be the kind of guy to pull that off."

Chad Green, CB, 5-11, 170, Birmingham, Van Nuys, Calif. Received seven BiW votes. Western 100 selection. Cover corner prospect who did superb job on USC All-American signee Steve Smith. Five picks, 30 tackles as senior. Had two picks as junior. Appeared headed "home" to LSU. Also caught 48-1200 as receiver. Has qualified.

Koetter quote: "He played wherever coach needed."

Robert Gustavis, OL, 6-3, 263, North, Torrance, Calif. Considered aggressive blocker. Originally made pledge to Arizona. All-CIF. Reportedly runs 5.3 40-yard dash. Reported 3.6 GPA, 1,080 SAT.

Koetter quote: "A very athletic big man. His best football is ahead of him."

Darnel Henderson, S, 5-11, 185, McClymondds, Oakland. Returned two of four interceptions for touchdowns. Ran for 1,425 yards and 21 TDs last season. Last report had not qualified.

Koetter quote: "Another underrecruited guy."

De’Andre Johnson, LB, 6-2, 225, South Mountain, Phoenix. 2002 signee whose test score was too low for enrollment. Spent fall improving score and has enrolled. Will participate in spring practice.

Koetter quote: "This guy can run and hit. He wanted to be a Sun Devil."

Sam Keller, QB, 6-4, 220, Danville, San Ramon, Calif. SuperPrep All-American. Western 100 selection. Completed 210-of-333 passes for 3,282 yards and 38 TDs with 5 picks. As junior threw for 2,650 yards, 28 TDs. Performance earned spot in prestigious California-Florida All-Star game. Has football background; dad played at Michigan. Last minute defection from Wolverines. Reportedly runs 4.95. Reported 2.9 GPA, 1,100 SAT.

Koetter quote: "We could not pass (him) up."

Chris McKenzie, DB, 5-10, 185, Queens, N.Y., Glendale CC. Secondteam JC Grid-Wire All-American. NJCAA All-American. NJCAA Region I Player of the Year. Fast athlete who can play corner or safety. For career had three interceptions. Late bloomer.

Koetter quote: "Chris could have gone to any team in the country."

Brent Miller, TE-LB, 6-5, 225, Desert Vista, Phoenix. Western 100 selection. All-Tribune as linebacker. Phoenix Metro Super All-State as linebacker. Recruited to play tight end. Has qualified with reported 3.9 GPA, 1,200 SAT.

Koetter quote: "One of the most athletic big guys. The sky is the limit for this guy."

Chijoke Onyenegecha, cornerback, 6-3, 205, El Cerrito, Calif.; City College of San Francisco. JC Grid-Wire All-American. Fast, physical corner ASU has been lacking. Picked ASU over Oklahoma. Prepped at same high school as ASU forward Jamal Hill. Has been clocked in 10.27 seconds for 100 meters.

Koetter quote: "May be the best cover corner in junior college football."

Julius Orieukwu, OL, 6-7, 260, Bellaire, Houston. Ranked No. 84 on Dallas Morning News top 100 state player. Has wingspan of 7-footer. Relatively new to the game.

Koetter quote: "He has an unbelievable upside. He looks like Levi Jones as a senior."

Brett Palmer, DT, 6-3, 280, Marcos de Niza, Tempe. SuperPrep All-American. Western 100 selection. Had 60 tackles 10 sacks as junior. Played end, but will move inside. Participated in 111 tackles with nine sacks as senior. So-so senior season, only made second-team All-Tribune. Early commitment. Honor student who has qualified.

Koetter quote: "He’s got a great motor."

Mike Pollak, offensive guard, 6-4, 275, Corona del Sol, Tempe. All-Tribune 5A selection. Western 100 selection. Two BiW votes. Phoenix Metro Super All-State. Solid run blocker with good quickness. Has qualified with reported 3.6 GPA, 990 SAT.

Koetter quote: "Very soft spoken off the field, not on the field."

Gabe Reninger, DT, 6-3, 275, Centennial, Las Vegas, Moorpark CC. Participated in 84 tackles with 7 1 /2 sacks. Registered 43 quarterback pressures. JC Grid Wire third-team All-American.

Koetter quote: "The immediate inside presence we need."

Brandon Rodd, OL, 605, 275, Aiea, Aiea, Hawaii. All-State selection as junior and senior.

Koetter quote: "He’s got the frame to get bigger."

Daniel Varvel, S, 6-3, 190, Bakersfield, Bakersfield, Calif. Had 120 tackles and five tackles as senior, 95 tackles, five sacks six interceptions as junior. Will play free safety. Honor student.

Koetter quote: "He’s a run-andhit type guy."

Mark Washington, LB, 6-1, 245, Poly, Long Beach, Calif. Western 100 selection. Participated in 117 tackles, 23 behind the line of scrimmage, seven sacks and three fumble recoveries. Had 40 tackles, three sacks as junior. Ran 4.6 at Nike camp. Strength is defending run. Another late get, he appeared headed to Colorado. Has qualified with reported 3.0 GPA, 910 SAT.
